Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, a password (stored securely using industry-standard hashing), and a username that will be visible to other users.
Profile Information: During onboarding, we ask for your age group and gender. This information is stored privately and is never visible to other users. We use this data in aggregate to understand our user base and improve our service.
Activity Data: We store information about your interactions with the app, including events you bookmark, organizers you follow, and your upvotes or downvotes on events. Your bookmarks and follows are visible on your profile; your votes are not.
Location Data: If you enable location services, we may access your device's location to show you nearby events. Location access is optional and can be disabled at any time in your device settings. We do not store your precise location history.
Device Information: We collect device tokens to send you push notifications about events you've bookmarked. We may also collect basic device information for troubleshooting and analytics purposes.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain the countdowns service
- Send you reminders about upcoming events you've bookmarked
- Show you events relevant to your location (if enabled)
- Display your public profile to other users (username and activity only)

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the following service providers who help us operate countdowns:

- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications) — Used solely to deliver event reminders to your device. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- Google Sign-In / Apple Sign-In (optional authentication) — If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive only your email address and basic profile information from these services.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of countdowns, our users, or the public.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely on servers located in the European Union. We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and implement Row Level Security policies to ensure you can only access data you're authorized to see.
Passwords are hashed using secure algorithms and are never stored in plain text. We cannot retrieve your password — only reset it.
Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access your data: View your profile and activity within the app
- Correct your data: Update your profile information at any time
- Delete your account: You can delete your account from within the app, which will remove your personal data from our systems

Age Requirements
countdowns is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 16, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
Content Standards
countdowns maintains strict content standards. Events promoting alcohol, drugs, tobacco, nudity, sexual content, hate speech, or harm are not permitted on our platform. We are committed to providing a safe, family-friendly environment.
